Focused Health 302 Preview

In what wasn't a particularly surprising outcome, Connor Zilisch took home the win at the Charlotte Roval last weekend by beating out Andre Green by just over one second. The playoff field was also cut down to eight drivers, with Nick Sanchez, Austin Hill, Harrison Burton and Taylor Gray all being eliminated.

The Round of 8 features Las Vegas, Talladega and Martinsville. That gives the remaining drivers the opportunity to excel at different types of traditional oval tracks, with this weekend being the intermediate edition. Sheldon Creed and Carson Kvapil are the two drivers in the biggest need of strong performances this weekend, as they sit 11 and 13 points below the cut line, respectively.

Key Stats at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

  • Number of Races: 36
  • Winners from Pole: 6
  • Winners from Top 5: 16
  • Winners from Top 10: 28

Previous Winners at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

2025 – Justin Allgaier
2024- AJ Allmendinger
2024- John Hunter Nemechek
2023-  Riley Herbst
2023- Austin Hill
2022- Josh Berry
2022- Ty Gibbs
2021- Josh Berry
2021- AJ Allmendinger
2020-  Chase Briscoe

Las Vegas is considered to be quite comparable to Phoenix, which is obviously notable considering the championship race will take place there in a matter of three weeks. For now, the focus will remain on Vegas, which is a unique track due to the lack of importance of qualifying in recent runs. The last winner from pole was Chase Briscoe in 2020. In nine races since, the best qualifying position of a race winner was sixth (Allgaier this spring), with five winners starting from 10th or worse on the grid.

NASCAR Xfinity Picks for the Focused Health 302

Justin Allgaier - $11,500

Christian Eckes - $7,700
Daniel Hemric - $7,500
Harrison Burton - $7,200

Connor Zilisch is the obvious choice given that he's won eight of 12 races since the calendar flipped to July. There also isn't a huge gap in price relative to what we've seen at other tracks between he and Justin Allgaier. Nevertheless, there's a compelling case for Allgaier, who won this race in the spring, has finished inside the top 10 in each of the last eight races here, and inside the top three in five of those eight races.

Rostering at least one of the duo from Richard Childress Racing is a good idea. Both are viable, but I'll lean toward the slight discount with Jesse Love over Austin Hill. Love had an excellent showing in Vegas this spring, qualifying seventh before finishing third.

Nick Sanchez kicks off the middle tier of pricing. He maintained a 93.6 driver rating across three races at the track in the Truck Series. His 13th place this spring wasn't spectacular, but he did manage to move up a few positions to record 34 DK points. He is among an intriguing group of pitchers priced between $7,000 and $8,000. Daniel Hemric has run a limited Xfinity slate along with his full-time Truck schedule and has performed well in both. With Cup experience also under his belt, Hemric is a good value. That's not even to mention what he's done in Vegas, finishing no worse than 10th in his last seven races and fifth or better on four of those occasions. Finally, Harrison Burton was just booted from the playoffs but is another driver with a strong track record at Vegas, finishing inside the top 10 in all five of his races at the track in the Xfinity Series.

One of the typical punt or extreme value plays will likely be needed to round out rosters for salary purposes. Daniel Dye has popped for big DK scores in recent weeks and also had 39 DK points in the Vegas spring race.

Best Bets for the Focused Health 302

Race Winner: Connor Zilisch (+175), Justin Allgaier (+225), Jesse Love (+1700)

Top-Five Finish: Jesse Love (+190), Austin Hill (+190)

Head-to-Head Matchups:

Austin Hill (-115) vs. Sammy Smith (-115)

Jesse Love (-125) vs. Sheldon Creed (-105)

Connor Zilisch (-140) vs. Justin Allgaier (+105)

We have the typical suspects as the best bets for the race winner in Zilisch and Allgaier. As is the case for DFS contests and the head-to-head matchup, Allgaier presents the better value. We've run through why he's a good option based on his track record at Las Vegas.

Hill has finished inside the top five in three of his last six races at the track, and is another option to consider as a race winner (+1700) in addition to a top-five finisher.
