Ramping up fitness
Gomez is ramping up his fitness ahead of Monday's match against Newcastle after an Achilles injury limited him in the offseason, according to manager Arne Slot. "Joe Gomez is definitely one of them, but for him to already play 20 minutes. That is already quite a lot. I wouldn't say he has had a setback, but he wasn't able to train three days in a row completely with the team. This is completely normal when you have been out for so long. He is training with the team, so let's see where he is and if he can be involved on Monday. You cannot prepare for two injuries in one position."
ANALYSIS
Gomez is still dealing with some setbacks from his Achilles injury he suffered this offseason, with the defender still trying to regain full fitness. He played 20 minutes in their season opener to test his legs, seemingly a lot for the defender after his injury. That said, he will continue to train ahead of Monday, hoping to be fit and replace Jeremy Frimpong's (hamstring) spot, as Conor Bradley also looks unlikely to start.

Can't play 30 minutes yet
Gomez (Achilles) featured for 20 minutes in Friday's 4-2 victory against Bournemouth in the season opener but can't yet play half an hour at that level of competition, coach Arne Slot said in a press conference. "With Joe Gomez only training twice, I didn't feel he could already play half [an hour] in this intensity, so I started off with Wata [Endo] in that position, knowing that I could always bring Joe maybe later on for 10, 15, 20 minutes."

Late call Friday
Gomez (Achilles) will be a late call for Friday's clash against Bournemouth and could make the bench, coach Arne Slot said in the press conference. "Joe, I have to make a decision on that, he missed a lot of pre-season, trained twice but the Palace game, two teenagers, so there is a possibility he might be on the bench."

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Wanted by two clubs
Aston Villa and Newcastle United want to sign Gomez, according to Football Insider.
ANALYSIS
Gomez has no place in the current Liverpool squad, and the defender wants to leave Anfield to see regular minutes elsewhere. He's open to staying in the Premier League, though, and he might get the chance given the two teams that are interested in him. Newcastle could certainly used Gomez after not being able to sign Marc Guehi in the summer.
