Saturday has a full slate, though multiple games probably won't go as planned due to a cold front moving through most of the country. Games in Chicago, Cincinnati, Detroit and Minnesota could be postponed barring a change in the forecast. That being the case, I'm looking toward the south and games indoors with a loaded lineup of top pitchers.
PITCHER
Jameson Taillon, PIT at MIA ($47): Given his performance, Taillon is still a steal at this price with Corey Kluber and Max Scherzer both at 60 bucks. Taillon already carved through the Reds and Twins for 16 strikeouts and faces an even more beatable lineup in this matchup. The Marlins are last in the league against righties with a .259 wOBA and 25.8 K%.
Charlie Morton, HOU vs. TEX ($46): I was on Morton in his previous two starts (12 IP, 0 ER, 13 Ks), and I'm not going to stop now. He doesn't have the upside as some other pitchers, but he's the biggest favorite of the day and doesn't come at an outlandish price. The Rangers are better than the Padres and Orioles (Morton's previous opponents), though not by much with a .297 wOBA and 22.3 K% against righties.
CATCHER
Evan Gattis, HOU vs. TEX ($10): With a lot of money going toward pitching, valuable bats are important. Gattis provides that in a decent spot even if his overall numbers aren't great. Mike Minor couldn't go five innings the last time he saw the Astros (4.2 IP, 2 ER, 2 BB).
FIRST BASE
Eric Thames, MIL at NYM ($20): Thames has been one of Milwaukee's only consistent bats early in the season. That should work against Matt Harvey, who has been shakey in his first two starts (10 IP, 10 H, 7 K) and has a 6.34 xFIP against lefties after posting a 6.26 xFIP against southpaws last season.
SECOND BASE
Robinson Cano, SEA vs. OAK ($18): This is another expensive play, but it's almost can't miss for Cano against a struggling right-hander. Kendall Graveman has given up at least four runs in all three of his starts and has been roasted by lefty bats. Cano's upside has been minimal against righties in 2018, but his power should come back at some point after last season's .519 SLG.
THIRD BASE
Kyle Seager, SEA vs. OAK ($14): In the same vein as Cano, Seager comes at a better price. Graveman has been brutal in his early starts only with five strikeouts and 20 hits allowed, and four of Seager's five extra-base hits this season, including two home runs, came off right-handers.
SHORT STOP
Corey Seager, LAD vs. ARI ($12): I wanted to go cheaper, but Seager's still in a great situation at a decent price. Seeger posted a .353 wOBA against right-handed pitching last season, and Arizona righty Taijuan Walker struggled against the Dodgers in his first start (5 IP, 8 H, 3 ER) this year. Seager had a couple of singles in that game.
OUTFIELD
Corey Dickerson, PIT at MIA ($18): If you have some money, it'd be wise to go with Dickerson, who is raking and is tied for third in the majors with nine extra-base hits. Trevor Richards hasn't shown much in his two starts, allowing 14 hits allowed and eight earned runs in 8.1 innings.
Andrew McCutchen, SF at SD ($14): The Giants haven't done much to instill confidence, but it's hard to see Clayton Richard carving them up. McCutchen had a .462 wOBA last season against southpaws. Richard has had issue against righties with a poor 1.9 K-BB% and 4.49 xFIP.
Stephen Piscotty, OAK at SEA ($7): This is a complete value play with the hope of the over 8.5 runs hitting for the Mariners-A's. Piscotty is struggling in his first AL season, which is why his price is this low, but a matchup with Marco Gonzales could help. The lefty couldn't make it out of the third inning against the Royals in his last start (2.1 IP, 8 H, 4 ER).
