ESL has revealed a new set of rules pertaining to rosters changes and locks for the upcoming Season 7 of the ESL Pro League.

The new rules are aimed at dealing with some of the more sticky issues that arose over the last year, adding a bit of clarification to the grey areas. The new rules are as follows:

  • It is no longer possible to down/up from/to academy teams
  • A loan exception was added in national competitions
  • The Emergency Transfer rule was modified to allow transfers in special circumstances that otherwise would be prohibited
  • A Roster Submission Deadline has been added (it has been extended to February 7th to give teams that attended the Boston Major more time)

The academy player rule stems from Team EnVyUs making similar roster moves at the end of 2017, while several teams found themselves dealing with Emergency Transfer situations during the year as well. Most notably, Astralis was forced to use Ruben "RUBINO" Villarroel as a stand-in when Nicolai "dev1ce" Reedtz was out with an illness. The new rules now give teams more concrete means in which to deal with the tricky situations.

The seventh season of the Pro League is set to kick off on February 13, with 14 teams from Europe and North America will battle it out for a chance at a slice of the $1,000,000 prize pool.
