As always, the biggest concern with the preseason is how much playing time players will get. This week, most starters will get more run than they did in Week 1 of preseason, but they'll be pulled anywhere from the mid-first to the mid-second quarter. I will list a mix of choices between veterans and players trying to establish themselves.
Before setting final lineups, be sure to check the RotoWire news to see if there's any last-minute updates regarding playing time/roles. Finally, all players have the same salary during preseason, so you may start any combination of players you wish in any of the site's contests.
QUARTERBACK
Jeff Driskel, CIN vs. KC - Not only did Driskel complete eight of nine passes for 97 yards and a score last week, he also rushed for 34 yards and a score. When a backup QB is a duel threat and can thrive against defensive backups, he's a fantastic DFS option.
Mitchell Trubisky, CHI at ARZ - Chicago's top draft pick carved up the Broncos' backups last week and should see another half of action against the Cardinals' reserves in the desert. It's unlikely he sees much of a pass rush, as he looks great for a repeat performance of his successful preseason debut.
RUNNING BACK
Samaje Perine, WAS vs. GB - The rookie couldn't have had a worse debut last week, as he fumbled and posted fewer than three yards per carry. Perine's a talented runner, but he's at risk for getting buried behind Rob Kelley in the quest for carries. Bet on talent this week, as he looks to reverse the negative trend of his offseason.
Dwayne Washington, DET vs. NYJ - By all accounts, Washington is having a great training camp, and he confirmed those reports when he carried six time for 34 yards last week. He's a player on the rise and a great bet to do well against the Jets' backup defenders.
WIDE RECEIVER
Kenny Golladay, DET vs. NYJ - I'm really going on a limb here. Golladay followed all of his glowing camp reports with a 53-yard, two-TD effort last week. Sure, many DFS players will use him, but if he has another big game, you'll want him in your lineup as well.
Cody Latimer, DEN at SF - Latimer had his way with the Chicago backups last week, catching all seven targets for 54 yards. Although his career has been disappointing, he might have finally figured things out. And if he is targeted heavily again, that's a recipe for DFS success.
TIGHT END
Troy Niklas, ARZ vs. CHI - Although Niklas had just two targets last week, he found the end zone on one. He should see time against Chicago's second-string defense, and against that level of competition, he can be an effective red-zone target. A TD could vault him near the top of TEs this week.
Austin Seferian-Jenkins, NYJ at DET - Seferian-Jenkins will serve a suspension to open the season, so he'll only have a couple weeks during preseason to make a lasting impression on his coaches that he deserves to be heavily targeted this season. Although he was targeted just once last week, he should see more playing time this week, as he's had an outstanding training camp.
DEFENSE
Dallas Cowboys (vs. IND) - The Colts will use backup QBs the entire way, and that's as good a reason as any to consider the Cowboys as a strong DFS option.
Houston Texans (vs. NE) - It's unlikely the Patriots go all out in a preseason game against a team they could see down the road. If the Texans leave their starters on the field for more than a quarter, they should be able to put up some solid defensive stats.
KICKER
Dan Bailey, DAL vs. IND - The Colts aren't exactly known for their defense, so it wouldn't be a surprise if the Cowboys move the ball consistently. That's a great reason to look at starting Bailey.
Matt Prater, DET vs. NYJ - The Lions moved the ball well in their preseason opener, even when the first-team offense wasn't on the field. So, if their success carries over this week, Prater should benefit with a strong scoring game.
