Hidden Stat Line: Week 10 Backfield Breakdown

Hidden Stat Line: Week 10 Backfield Breakdown

This article is part of our Hidden Stat Line series.

Week 9 was noteworthy for the number of backfields utilizing a committee, with seven different teams splitting work between three running backs. Week 10 has been a different story, as four of the committee teams from last weekend — Detroit, Miami, Seattle, NY Giants — switched up their approach to hone in on a clear lead runner Sunday afternoon.

D'Andre Swift's three-down workload was arguably the biggest fantasy story of the weekend, and we also saw the likes of Kalen Ballage and Salvon Ahmed handling huge roles. Ballage and Ahmed may only be short-term commodities, but both happen to have favorable matchups around the corner in Week 11 (the former faces the Jets, while the latter faces the Broncos).

Colts

 Snap ShareCarriesTargetsTarget ShareRoutesRoutes/DB Stat Line
Nyheim Hines 56%  126 16.7% 25 .6312-70-1 — 5-45-1
Jonathan Taylor 24%  7 5.6% 8 .207-12-0 — 2-25-0
Jordan Wilkins20%  8 2.8% 5 .138-28-0 — 0-0-0
  • Taylor got his eight consecutive start, yet finished with single-digit touches for a second straight week. The past two games have been the rookie's two worst of the season in terms of carries (6, 7), touches (8, 9) and snap share (31%, 24%).
  • Hines led the way Thursday night, but Wilkins also had a significant role on the ground, taking more carries than Taylor for a third straight game. Wilkins has 39 carries to Taylor's 24 over the past three weeks.
  • Despite getting the start, Taylor played only five of 21 snaps in the first quarter, while Hines and Wilkins got eight apiece. Each of the three had four opportunities (carries+targets) in the opening quarter.
  • Taylor, Hines and Wilkins took one carry apiece inside the 5-yard line. The first of those came on the opening drive of the second half when Taylor was stuffed on 3rd-and-goal from the 1-yard line. Wilkins then got stuffed on fourth down, and it was Hines who punched it in from two yards out on the very next drive.
  • Hines then played 18 of 20 snaps in the second quarter, followed by nine of 19 in the third and four of 10 in the fourth. He had a receiving score from 13 yards out in the second quarter, in addition to the aforementioned rushing TD.
  • Hines is still averaging only 49.1 scrimmage yards per game, but he has two rushing TDs and four receiving TDs. He has accounted for 16.3% of the team's red-zone targets and 13.3% of the inside-the-10 targets, plus 22.9% of the red-zone carries and 20.0% of the inside-the-five carries.

Titans

 Snap ShareCarriesTargetsTarget ShareRoutesRoutes/DB Stat Line
Derrick Henry 58%  19 7.4% 10 .3319-103-0 — 1-6-0
Jeremy McNichols 26%  3 3.7% 12 .403-26-0 — 1-8-0
D'Onta Foreman 14%  7  3.7% 2 .077-18-0 — 1-5-1
  • Foreman got six of his seven carries and six of his nine snaps on the final drive, after the Titans had pulled starters from the game. However, he did make an impact while the contest remained competitive, scoring a five-yard receiving TD on the opening drive.
  • Foreman scored the Titans' lone touchdown by a RB, but Henry played eight of 12 snaps in the red zone and each of the three snaps inside the 5-yard line. He got a carry from the 1-yard line in the second quarter but was stuffed for a loss on the play (TE Jonnu Smith scored a one-yard rushing TD shortly thereafter).
  • Henry played only four of 24 snaps in the fourth quarter. First, the Titans went with McNichols in their hurry-up offense. Then, they turned to Foreman when it was time to surrender. Prior to the fourth quarter, Henry played 82.9% of snaps, which actually would've bested his season high of 75%.
  • Henry still has 18 or more carries in every game this season, finishing Thursday's action as the league leader in both carries (201) and rushing yards (946).
  • McNichols played each of the four snaps on 3rd-and-medium/long while Tannehill was still in the game. However, McNichols didn't get any snaps on first or second down until the fourth quarter. Henry played 33 of the 34 early down snaps before the final quarter.

Buccaneers (46) at Panthers (23)

Bucs

 Snap ShareCarriesTargetsTarget ShareRoutesRoutes/DB Stat Line
Ronald Jones 59%  23 2 5.3% 16 .3923-192-1 — 1-6-0
Leonard Fournette 36%  8 3 7.9% 14 .348-19-0 — 2-11-0
  • LeSean McCoy got on the field for the first time since Week 6.... but only for three Blaine Gabbert kneel-downs at the very end of the game.
  • Jones played more snaps than Fournette for the first time since Fournette returned from his ankle injury, ending a three-game streak with LF getting at least 56 percent of snaps and six targets.
  • The 23 carries for Jones matched his career high from the Week 6 win over Green Bay, one of the games Fournette missed. RoJo lost a fumble for a second time in the past three weeks, but it didn't have any impact on his workload, as he got three carries on the very next drive after coughing the ball up in the first quarter.
  • Jones only had a slight advantage over Fournette in the red zone — 11-10 for snaps and 6-4 for touches. Jones got two of the team's four carries inside the 5-yard line, while Fournette got one and Tom Brady the other. Brady's sneak was the only TD out of the four.
  • Jones got clock-killing work in the fourth quarter, taking the final five carries of the game before Tampa went to kneel-down mode.
  • Fournette played six of nine snaps on 3rd-and-medium/long, with Jones getting one and the Bucs using no RB for two others. Fournette also played each of the team's three snaps inside the two-minute warning of the first half, i.e., he was still the clear favorite on passing downs.

Panthers

 Snap ShareCarriesTargetsTarget ShareRoutesRoutes/DB Stat Line
Mike Davis 52%  7 5 17.9% 13 .397-32-0 — 4-12-0
Rodney Smith 19%  3 3.6% 4 .123-13-0 — 1-2-0
Trenton Cannon 10%  000.0% 5 .150 — 0
  • Davis had handled at least 72% of snaps and 12 touches in every other game without Christian McCaffrey. Sunday was a different story, with Smith, Cannon and Curtis Samuel all poaching a little backfield work.
  • Samuel played five snaps in the backfield, per PFF, taking three carries for four yards.
  • Prior to halftime, Davis played 17 of 27 snaps (63%), with Cannon getting two and Smith one. That means the Panthers had seven plays with no RB on the field or with Samuel lining up as the RB.
  • Davis did play both of Carolina's snaps inside the 5-yard line, taking one carry while Teddy Bridgewater got the other.
  • Davis played only four of eight snaps on 3rd-and-medium/long.
  • Smith played the final four snaps of the game, after Tampa had sealed the victory by making it a three-score contest.
  • Davis hasn't scored a TD since Week 6 and hasn't put up more than 77 total yards in a game since Week 5. He's at 4.2 YPC and 5.4 YPT for the season, and he's no longer locked in for an every-down role if McCaffrey misses more time.

Washington Football Team (27) at Lions (30)

Peyton Barber 11%  2 1 1.9% .052-7-0 — 1-7-0
  • McKissic handled his second-largest snap share of the season, behind only 83% from Week 9. He led the team in targets for a second straight week, giving him 29 in the past two games.
  • McKissic played 34 snaps in the backfield, 18 out wide and 10 in the slot, per PFF. It was his third straight games with double-digit slot snaps and at least 18 plays that weren't from the backfield.
  • McKissic has accounted for 33 of the 102 targets (32.4%) with Alex Smith playing quarterback. Terry McLaurin (18.6%) is a distant second, but he does have a 13-192-1 line on 19 targets from Smith, whereas McKissic has only 18-128-0 on 33 targets.
  • Gibson has seen only seven targets (6.9%) from Mr. Smith, catching each of the seven for just 23 total yards.
  • Gibson played less than half the snaps for a fourth straight game, but 13 carries tied for his second most this season, and he now has seven rushing TDs in nine games.
  • Gibson and McKissic each got three carries and one target in the red zone, including one snap apiece (both rushing TDs) inside the 5-yard line. McKissic scored from two yards out late in the third quarter, while Gibson scored from 2 and 5 yards out in the fourth.
  • The carry inside the 5-yard line was McKissic's first this season. Gibson has seven and Barber has six, but Barber's all came in Weeks 1 (five) and 4 (one).
  • McKissic played 12 of 12 snaps on 3rd-and-medium/long. He also played 27 of 34 snaps (79.4%) in the fourth quarter, while Gibson got only nine (26.5%) but nonetheless scored the pair of TDs.
  • Barber technically got the start and the first carry, but after logging seven snaps in the first quarter he played just three more throughout the rest of the game.

Lions

 Snap ShareCarriesTargetsTarget ShareRoutesRoutes/DB Stat Line
D'Andre Swift 73% 16 5 15.6%22  .6516-81-0 — 5-68-1

Adrian Peterson 12% 4 1 4.1% 2.06 4-21-0 — 1-9-0
  • Swift had season highs for carries (16), touches (21) and snap share (73%). He had five more carries than Peterson (13-8) in the previous week's loss to Minnesota, and he had 12 more than the future Hall of Famer on Sunday.
  • Swift got the start and played each of Detroit's 12 snaps in the first quarter. Peterson and Johnson mixed in thereafter, but Swift played more than half the snaps in every quarter, including 15 of 17 in the fourth.
  • Detroit didn't run any plays inside the 10-yard line. Swift got only one of four snaps in the red zone, with Peterson taking two and Johnson one. The red-zone usage is something to watch moving forward, considering Swift played only three of 11 snaps in that area the previous week.
  • Johnson played five of eight snaps on 3rd-and-medium/long. Swift got the other three.
  • Swift played 24 of 30 snaps on first down, and 15 of 19 on second down. He even played nine of 11 on 2nd-and-long, so it was really only the very obvious passing situations where Johnson came on as a replacement.

Eagles (17) at Giants (27)

Eagles

 Snap ShareCarriesTargetsTarget ShareRoutesRoutes/DB Stat Line
Miles Sanders 72%  15 5 13.9%20 .4915-85-0 — 2-10-0
Boston Scott 27%  3 1 2.8%11  .273-63-1 — 1-11-0
  • Corey Clement scored a five-yard TD on his only snap, one play after Sanders ripped off a 14-yard gain. Fantasy-football people on twitter were not thrilled, to say the least. Those two plays were Philly's only snaps in the red zone all game.
  • Scott scored his TD on a 56-yard scamper. Six of his seven NFL touchdowns have come against the Giants, and so have 432 of his 809 yards (53.4%). Not sure how that's even possible.
  • Sanders played five of seven snaps on 3rd-and-medium/long, with Scott getting the other two.
  • The 72% snap share was actually Sanders' smallest of the season, apart from the Week 6 game where a knee injury forced him out early. Miles has played 77, 78, 77, 85 and 72 percent of snaps in his five full games this season, averaging 15.0 carries and 5.6 targets.

Giants

 Snap ShareCarriesTargetsTarget ShareRoutesRoutes/DB Stat Line
Wayne Gallman 59% 18  2 7.1%13 .3918-53-2 — 1-7-0

Dion Lewis 20%  0 2  7.1%11  .330 — 2-17-0
  • Devonta Freeman (ankle) had a setback in Thursday's practice and was placed on IR. The Giants have a bye in Week 11, followed by a matchup with Cincinnati in Week 12. Freeman won't be eligible to return until Week 13 at Seattle, if he's even healthy by that time.
  • Gallman made a third straight start and played more than half the snaps for a third time in the past four games. He's averaging 13.5 carries and 2.5 targets over the four-game stretch, scoring five rushing TDs despite being limited to 3.7 YPC.
  • Gallman's 18 carries were a season high, with the Giants holding a lead for the final 56 minutes of the game. He had three carries for 25 yards on the opening drive, but he managed only 28 yards from 15 carries thereafter.
  • Over the past four weeks, Gallman played 13 of New York's 15 snaps inside the 10-yard line, accounting for six of the team's carries in that area (one apiece for Daniel Jones, Dion Lewis, RB Elijhaa Penny). Gallman scored TDs on five of those six carries.
  • Lewis played seven of eight snaps on 3rd-and-medium/long.

Jaguars (20) at Packers (24)

Jags

 Snap ShareCarriesTargetsTarget ShareRoutesRoutes/DB Stat Line
James Robinson  83% 23 5 14.7% 23 .6123-109-0 — 2-3-0
Dare Ogunbowale  16%  0 2  5.9% 10 .260 — 1-5-0
  • Chris Thompson played one snap before exiting the game to be checked for a concussion. He was cleared, but he also had suffered a back injury, which kept him out for the rest of the game.
  • Ogunbowale played seven of 10 snaps on 3rd-and-medium/long, with Robinson getting two and Thompson one.
  • Robinson played 11 of 12 snaps on 2nd-and-long, and 27 of 28 snaps on first down. The snap share was his second-largest of the year, and it was his fourth straight game with 69 percent or more. He also has three in a row with 22-to-25 carries for 99-to-119 yards.
  • Robinson played every snap on the Jags' final drive when they were down by four points, seeing one carry and two incomplete targets.
  • Robinson had a 16-yard touchdown called back on a holding penalty in the third quarter, followed by an 18-yard TD called back on another holding penalty in the fourth quarter.

Packers

 Snap ShareCarriesTargetsTarget ShareRoutesRoutes/DB Stat Line
Aaron Jones 63%  13 6 18.2% 19 .5313-46-0 — 5-49-0
Jamaal Williams 48%  8 4  12.1% 16 .448-30-0 — 3-25-0
  • This was the first game both Jones and Williams have played since Week 6. Williams is averaging 6.8 carries and 3.0 targets (with zero TDs) when Jones plays. Jones is averaging 14.7 carries and 5.7 targets (with seven TDs in six games) when Williams plays.
  • Jones played each of GB's four red-zone snaps, taking one carry. The Packers didn't run any plays inside the Jags' 5-yard line.
  • Williams played seven of nine snaps on 3rd-and-medium/long.

Texans (7) at Browns (10)

Texans

 Snap ShareCarriesTargetsTarget ShareRoutesRoutes/DB Stat Line
Duke Johnson 95%  14 1 3.3% 25 .7414-54-0 — 0
  • C.J. Prosise played two snaps, and Buddy Howell took one. Otherwise, it was Duke's show all day long, while teammate David Johnson (concussion) was placed on IR before the game. David won't be eligible to play in a game until Dec. 6 (Week 13).
  • (Duke) Johnson played each of Houston's seven red-zone snaps, taking one carry. He also played both snaps inside the 5-yard line, but one was a Deshaun Watson carry and the other a pass to Randall Cobb.
  • The previous week, Duke played 89 percent of snaps after the first quarter (when David suffered a concussion). Duke has rarely come off the field since his backfield mate was injured.

Browns

 Snap ShareCarriesTargetsTarget ShareRoutesRoutes/DB Stat Line
Kareem Hunt 58%  19 4 21.1%14  .6419-104-0 — 3-28-0
Nick Chubb43%  19 1 5.3% 5 .2319-126-1 — 0
  • Chubb returned from his knee injury, playing for the first time since Week 4. Chubb has played 48, 62, 54 and 43 percent of snaps in his four full games, averaging 17.5 carries for 104.5 yards and 1.25 TDs. However, he's seen only four targets on 45 routes in those four games, while Hunt has been targeted 15 times on 46 routes.
  • In Chubb's four healthy games, Hunt has averaged 14.5 carries for 77 yards and 0.25 TDs, plus 2.75 catches for 17.5 yards and 0.5 TDs. That's actually pretty similar to what Hunt did in the four games Chubb missed.... 16.25 carries for 63.5 yards and 0 TDs, plus 2.5 catches for 17.75 yards and 0.5 TDs. Matchups have played a role in the numbers looking so similar, but it's interesting nonetheless.
  • Up by three points with five minutes remaining, the Browns gave Hunt six straight carries, picking up 37 yards. Chubb then rumbled for 59 yards on a 3rd-and-3 to ice the game, intentionally going out of bounds at the Houston 1-yard line.
  • Hunt had an 11-5 carry advantage over Chubb in the fourth quarter. We saw that earlier this year, with Hunt serving as the closer when the Browns were winning, or as the passing-down back if the team was in catch-up mode.
  • Hunt played nine of 10 snaps on 3rd-and-medium/long.
  • Chubb played five of seven snaps in the red zone, taking two carries. Hunt got only two RZ snaps but saw the ball both times (one carry, one target). The Browns didn't run any plays inside the 5-yard line until Baker Mayfield's pair of kneel-downs at the end of the game.

Bills (30) at Cardinals (32)

Bills

 Snap ShareCarriesTargetsTarget ShareRoutesRoutes/DB Stat Line
Zack Moss 53%  7 2 4.3% 18 .367-20-0 — 1--3-0
Devin Singletary 47%  4 5 10.6% 16 .324-15-0 — 1--5-0
  • Moss played more snaps than Singletary for a third straight week, but the share continues to linger around 50 percent apiece when both guys are healthy.
  • Moss ran more routes than Singletary for a second time in the past three weeks, though Singletary holds a 47-41 advantage in that stretch (and a 9-5 edge for targets).
  • The Bills ran only two plays in the red zone, with Moss and Singletary getting one snap (and zero touches) apiece. In five games since he returned from a foot injury, Moss has played 10 of 13 snaps inside the 5-yard line and 14 of 21 inside the 10.

Cardinals

 Snap ShareCarriesTargetsTarget ShareRoutesRoutes/DB Stat Line
Kenyan Drake 52%  16 1 3.1% 7 .1816-100-0 — 1-9-0
Chase Edmonds 49%  8 3 9.4% 21 .548-56-0 — 3-21-0
  • Drake (ankle) returned from a one-game absence and got the start, taking three carries for 25 yards on the opening drive. Edmonds also had three touches on that drive, including two catches for 34 yards.
  • Exclusing Week 7 when he left early with the ankle injury, Drake's 52% snap share Sunday was a season low. He logged 65-to-71 percent of snaps in each of his first six games this year.
  • Drake played six of eight snaps inside the 10-yard line, taking two carries. Edmonds played two snaps inside the 10, without getting any touches. Kyler Murray scored a pair of rushing touchdowns, from 15 and 1 yards out.
  • Murray has 10 of Arizona's 15 rushing TDs this year, including eight of 11 in the red zone. However, Drake still has more carries inside the 5-yard line (six to Murray's five) and more inside the 10-yard line (15 to Murray's nine).
  • Edmonds played each of the eight snaps on 3rd-and-medium/long. He's been getting more targets than Drake all year long, but those third-down snaps were only slightly in Edmonds' favor Weeks 1-7 (33 to Drake's 26).

Travis Homer10% 0 3  8.6% 6 .120 — 3-19-0
  • Collins got the start, after Dallas had taken the first snaps the previous two weeks. Collins had three carries for 20 yards and a TD on the opening drive, but he struggled for the rest of the game.
  • The 13-yard TD was one of just two snaps Seattle had in the red zone. The other was a Russell Wilson sack on the team's final offensive snap.
  • Homer left the game with a hand injury. He and Dallas both played three of the 11 snaps on 3rd-and-medium/long, with FB Nick Bellore getting the remaining five. It's possible Bellore handles the third-down role if Homer misses additional time, but it's also possible Dallas or Chris Carson (foot) could do it. (Carson has missed three straight games.)

Rams

Cam Akers  26% 10 0 0.0% 3 .0710-38-0 — 0
  • Henderson left the Week 8 game with a quad/thigh injury, but he returned healthy after a bye and got the start Sunday afternoon. However, he took only one carry on the opening drive, while Akers got three.
  • This was the second straight game in which each of the Rams' three RBs saw 6-to-10 carries. Henderson's injury was a factor in the even split during the previous game, but on Sunday there was no doubt the Rams made an effort to get Akers involved, even with Henderson looking healthy.
  • Brown played each of the 10 snaps on 3rd-and-medium/long. There was one drive in the second quarter where he picked up 13 yards on a 3rd-and-1 and then 11 yards on a 3rd-and-9, later scoring from seven yards out on a 3rd-and-2.
  • Brown's second TD came on a 1st-and-goal from the 1-yard line in the third quarter. Brown, Akers and Henderson each took one carry inside the 5-yard line.

  • Troymaine Pope returned from a concussion but only played special teams. Austin Ekeler (leg) and Justin Jackson (knee) also were out, but Ekeler could be back for Week 12, according to Daniel Popper of The Athletic.
  • Ballage got the start and played 10 of 14 snaps in the first quarter.
  • Ballage played each of the three snaps inside the 5-yard line but was stuffed for no gain on his only carry (a third down from the 1-yard line... Justin Herbert scored on fourth down).
  • Ballage played five of seven snaps inside the 10-yard line, with a 3-1 carry advantage over Kelley.
  • Kelley played four of seven snaps on 3rd-and-medium/long, but Ballage got 13 of 17 in the fourth quarter when the Chargers were in hurry-up mode playing from behind.

Patrick Laird  19%  20.0%  5 .192-19-0 — 0
  • Matt Breida (hamstring) and Myles Gaskin (knee) both were inactive again. Gaskin is on IR and will be out for at least one more game, but Breida could make it back for Week 11 after he managed limited practice participation (and a 'questionable' designation) leading up to Sunday's win.
  • DeAndre Washington played four snaps (7%) and took two carries for two yards. Jordan Howard was a healthy scratch, and he was then waived by the Dolphins on Monday.
  • Ahmed's role looked similar to what Myles Gaskin (knee) did Weeks 3-8, albeit with slightly less of a grip on passing downs. Patrick Laird played five of the seven snaps on 3rd-and-medium/long Sunday against the Chargers.
  • Ahmed played 21 of 24 snaps on first down, and 15 of 18 on second down.
  • Ahmed played three of four snaps inside the 5-yard line, including a one-yard rushing TD.

Austin Walter17%11 2.6% 8.191-3-0 — 1-27-0
  • Tevin Coleman (knee), Raheem Mostert (knee) and Jeff Wilson (ankle) all missed another week. Adding to the woes, both McKinnon (stinger) and Hasty (collarbone) suffered injuries during Sunday's loss.
  • At the end of the third quarter, McKinnon had played 42 of 54 snaps (78%), but his 18 carries and three targets produced only 46 yards. Hasty played the other 12 snaps, with 14 yards on four touches.
  • Walter played 12 of 17 snaps in the fourth quarter, after playing none at all through three quarters. He was only involved after McKinnon and Hasty got banged up.
  • McKinnon played each of the four snaps inside the 10-yard line, taking two carries for one yard.

Latavius Murray 41%  9 0 0.0%  8 .319-57-0 — 0
  • At the end of the third quarter, Kamara had played 27 of 35 snaps (77%), with a 6-13-1 rushing line and 7-83-1 receiving. He then played just 12 of 24 snaps (50%) in the fourth quarter, though he did add a one-yard rushing TD.
  • Murray had six of his nine carries and 44 of his 57 yards in the fourth quarter. He was barely a factor before the Saints took a two-score lead early in the fourth quarter.
  • Murray has 23 carries to Kamara's 22 in fourth quarters this year. Kamara has an 80-66 advantage for Q1-3.
  • Kamara now has eight carries inside the 5-yard line, with six going for TDs. Murray has three inside-the-five carries, including just one TD. Kamara has played 22 of the  Saints' 26 snaps inside the 5-yard line.

Samaje Perine 25%  7 1 2.6% 9 .207-48-0 — 1-7-0
  • Trayveon Williams played five snaps (8%), taking five carries for 22 yards on the final five plays of the game. Only Bernard and Perine got backfield work before the last drive.
  • Bernard played 39 of 49 snaps (80%) through three quarters, with a 7-3 carry advantage and 6-1 target advantage over Perine. The blowout nature of the game made this split look a little closer in the box score, but really Bernard dominated before garbage time.
  • Joe Mixon (foot) hasn't been ruled out for Week 11 at Washington, but it isn't a great sign that the Bengals listed him as a non-participant on every practice report last week.

Steelers

 Snap ShareCarriesTargetsTarget ShareRoutesRoutes/DB Stat Line
James Conner 88%  13 2 4.3% 31 .6713-36-0 — 2-12-0
  • Anthony McFarland (illness) was inactive, while Benny Snell played only four snaps and Jaylen Samuels only one. Even so, and even with the Steelers ahead all game, Conner finished with 60 yards or less for a third straight week. His snap share was a season high, ending a two-week trend where the Steelers had repeatedly used zero-RB formations after halftime.
  • Snell's four snaps were four carries (for 20 yards) on consecutive plays late in the fourth quarter. It was all Conner in the backfield before garbage time.
  • Conner got just five carries and one target between the second and third quarters Sunday, despite playing 38 of 41 snaps in that stretch.
  • Over the past three games, Conner has averaged 12.3 carries for 35 yards (2.8 YPC) and 2.3 catches for 7.7 yards.

Phillip Lindsay 30%  4 1 2.2% 14 .294-2-0 — 0
  • Royce Freeman played 10 snaps (14%), but only three of those came before the fourth quarter. Three of his four touches came on Denver's final drive deep into garbage time.
  • Lindsay played only five of 26 snaps in the fourth quarter. Prior to that, he logged 15 of 44 (34%), which still would've been his smallest share of the season apart from the two games where injuries knocked him out early.
  • Denver didn't have any snaps inside the 5-yard line, but Lindsay got four of the five snaps inside the 10 (albeit without any carries or targets on those plays).
  • Gordon played six of 12 snaps on 3rd-and-medium/long, with Freeman getting four and Lindsay two.

Devontae Booker 36% 16 1 4.5%3 .1116-81-2 — 1-2-0
  • Jalen Richard played only three snaps (4%), his first time below 11% this year. He logged just two of the 12 snaps on 3rd-and-medium/long, with Jacobs taking six and Booker four.
  • In addition to playing half the snaps on 3rd-and-medium/long, Jacobs played five of eight on 2nd-and-long prior to the fourth quarter.
  • At the end of the third quarter, Jacobs had played 38 of 56 snaps (68%), with an 18-7 carry advantage and 4-1 target advantage over Booker.
  • Booker has averaged 7.8 carries and 1.0 targets over the past five games, with Jacobs at 19.8 and 2.6 over that same stretch. The Raiders have been able to run the ball a ton while winning four of their past five.

Gus Edwards23%  7 2  5.9% 6 .157-42-0 — 1-31-0
  • Justice Hill played five snaps (8%), his first action of the season in a game Ingram also played.
  • Ingram suited up for the first time since Week 6 and got the start, catching a pass for 17 yards on the first play. He was quiet the rest of the night, rotating with Dobbins and Edwards.
  • Baltimore didn't have any snaps inside the 5-yard line. Snaps inside the 10 were divided between Hill (2), Ingram (1), Dobbins (1) and Edwards (1), with Edwards getting one carry and Hill one target (neither went for a TD).
  • Dobbins played nine of 14 snaps in the fourth quarter, but he got only four of eight on 3rd-and-medium/long, with Hill poaching three of those passing-down snaps. As if the Baltimore backfield wasn't already frustrating enough for fantasy managers...

Patriots

James White 17%  0 2 11.8%  5 .280 — 2-8-0
  • Sony Michel (quad) missed another game, but he could be back as soon as Week 11 at Houston. RBs coach Ivan Fears said Michel looked good on the practice field last week.
  • Harris has emerged as the clear lead runner, but he has only two targets and 21 routes run in six games. He's rarely on the field for pass plays, and when he is the Patriots have used him as a blocker 14 of 35 times (40%), per PFF. Burkhead has blocked on only 23% of his pass snaps, and White on only 18% of his.
  • Burkhead scored two TDs through the air, but it was Harris who got the only carry (besides Cam Newton) inside the 10-yard line.
  • Looking at the six games Harris has played (Weeks 4-10), he has only three of the team's 17 carries inside the 10-yard line. Newton has nine, Burkhead four and White one. It hasn't been any better inside the five, where Newton accounts for seven of the nine carries (plus one apiece for Burkhead and Harris).
  • Harris has started six straight games, averaging 14.2 carries for 78.5 yards (5.5 YPC). He isn't getting goal-line work or targets, instead maintaining fantasy relevance with his efficient running between the 20s. He's sixth among qualified rushers in YPC, and fourth among qualified RBs.
  • Yes, James White is still alive. He just doesn't get much work unless the run-heavy Patriots fall way behind and are forced to abandon their preferred method of attack.

Dalvin Cook  81%30  12.5% 24 .6530-96-0 — 4-16-0
  • Alexander Mattison got only five snaps (7%), and Ameer Abdullah played three (4%).
  • Cook played 88% of snaps Week 8, followed by 83% in the first half of Minnesota's Week 9 game. He's now getting well over three-quarters of the team's backfield work in competitive situations.
  • Despite missing one and a half games and already having his bye week, Cook leads the NFL in rushing yards (954), rushing TDs (12), scrimmage yards (1,143) and total TDs (13). Monster.

Ryan Nall 34%  1  6.9% 7 .201-0-0 — 1-18-0
  • David Montgomery (concussion) was inactive, missing his first game this year.
  • Artravis Pierce played six snaps (12%), and Lamar Miller got five (10%). Miller ran a route on each of his snaps and caught two passes for six yards. Pierce took three carries for nine yards.
  • Patterson lined up as a running back for 19 of his 25 snaps on offense, per PFF. He took three snaps out wide, two on direct snaps and one from the slot. The 19 backfield snaps were easily a season high... he'd logged no fewer than six and no more than 11 in each of Chicago's first nine games. Regardless, his biggest impact came on special teams with the eighth kick-return TD of his career.
  • PFF charted Nall lined up as a halfback or lone back on 16 of his 17 snaps, with only one lead-blocking snaps as a fullback. However, he was used as a blocker on seven of his 13 pass snaps, and the Bears gave him just one carry.
  • Patterson got the only carry inside the 10-yard line. Chicago never ran a snap inside Minnesota's 5-yard line.
  • Nall played six of 10 snaps on 3rd-and-medium/long.
