Weekly Rankings: Week 8 Value Meter

Weekly Rankings: Week 8 Value Meter

This article is part of our Weekly Rankings series.

***Massive bye week - BALTIMORE, CHICAGO, HOUSTON, INDIANAPOLIS, SAN DIEGO and TENNESSEE are all on bye this week!!!***

Here are our rankings for the coming week at each position to help you decide your starting lineup. Our rankings are based on the following scoring system: three points for a passing touchdown; six points for a rushing/receiving touchdown; one point for every 20 passing yards; and one point for every 10 rushing/receiving yards. Flex Rankings are for PPR leagues.

This article will be posted on Tuesday evenings, followed by two updates later in the week, usually on Thursday and then Sunday morning.

By all means, if you want to discuss a rank, or want me to add a player, chime in on the comments. I try to be receptive to your feedback and try to respond to most comments, though on occasion the volume can be quite thick. Please refer to the rankings first when asking "should I start Player A vs. Player B?".

I repeat, ***BALTIMORE, CHICAGO, HOUSTON, INDIANAPOLIS, SAN DIEGO and TENNESSEE on bye this week!!!***

Sunday Update Complete

Quarterback

1.Aaron Rodgers GB at Min
2.*Peyton Manning DEN vs. Was
Note: (Ankle) Full practice Thursday after being limited Wednesday. ***Chris Mortensen reports that Manning is dealing with two sprained ankles, one of which is a high ankle sprain.***
3.Drew Brees NO vs. Buf
4.Robert Griffin WAS at Den
5.Tony Romo DAL at Det
6.Cam Newton CAR at TB
7.Matthew Stafford DET vs. Dal
Note: Benefited from the healthy return of Megatron and by the Bengals' loss of Leon Hall.
8.Colin Kaepernick SF at Jax
Note: We saw more zone-read by Kaepernick against the Titans than we've seen in a long time.
9.Russell Wilson SEA at StL
10.*Michael Vick PHI vs. NYG
Note: (Hamstring) Took the first-team reps Tuesday, but still isn't sure if he'll be able to start. Full practice again Thursday. Still concerned about his lack of bravado earlier in the week, but he's trending upward at least. ***Full practice Friday, listed as probable. ***
11.Ben Roethlisberger PIT at Oak
12.Matt Ryan ATL at Ari
13.*Tom Brady NE vs. Mia
Note: Only 228 yards on 47 attempts despite Gronk's return. (Shoulder) Limited practice participant Thursday. *** Full practice Friday, listed as probable. ***
14.Carson Palmer ARZ vs. Atl
15.*Chad Henne JAC vs. SF
Note: Still starting even with Blaine Gabbert returning to practice.
16.Eli Manning NYG at Phi
Note: Made to look better merely based on the ineptitude of Josh Freeman, but 200 yards and a pick on 39 attempts is not what we'd call good. Was lucky not to throw a pick-six in the game, too.
17.Andy Dalton CIN vs. NYJ
Note: Has back-to-back 300-yard, three-touchdown games, though he's still having trouble with the deep ball.
18.Terrelle Pryor OAK vs. Pit
19.Geno Smith NYJ at Cin
20.Thaddeus Lewis BUF at NO
21.Alex Smith KC vs. Cle
22.*Ryan Tannehill MIA at NE
Note: Awful early, stronger in the middle, but overwhelmed by the Bills' pass rush late. The OL woes weren't fixed during the bye. (Shoulder) Limited in Wednesday's practice. *** Full practice Friday, listed as probable. ***
23.*Christian Ponder MIN vs. GB
Note: Josh Freeman has a concussion, so it's likely that Ponder will start.
24.Mike Glennon TB vs. Car
Note: Short week, playing against a tough defense.
25.*Jason Campbell CLE at KC
Note: Starting ahead of Weeden this week.
26.*Kellen Clemens STL vs. Sea
Note: Starting in place of the injured Sam Bradford.
27.*Brady Quinn STL vs. Sea
Note: Signed to be the backup to Kellen Clemens with Bradford out. Austin Davis will be the third QB.
28.*Brandon Weeden CLE at KC
Note: Some possibility that the Browns will choose Jason Campbell over Weeden this week. Benched this week.
29.*Nick Foles PHI vs. NYG
Note: Suffered a concussion against the Cowboys, did not practice Tuesday. Doing some conditioning work, but not yet cleared to practice. *** Officially out. ***
30.*Josh Freeman MIN vs. GB
Note: Gets to follow up his dumpster fire performance on Monday night with another prime time start, this time on Sunday night against the Packers. Suffered a concussion Monday night, and while he's making progress in his recovery, he's unlikely to play Sunday night. Christian Ponder is more likely to start. *** Officially out, Matt Cassel will be the backup. ***
31.*Sam Bradford STL vs. Sea
Note: Torn ACL, out for the season. Kellen Clemens will start this week.

7.Alfred Morris WAS at Den
Note: Ran well but lost the goal line carries to Roy Helu last week - don't expect this to be a permanent arrangement.

Note: (Ankle) Did not practice Wednesday. If the game becomes a blowout, he could sit out some of the second half. Full practice Thursday, though. *** Listed as probable.***
9.Le'Veon Bell PIT at Oak

10.*Reggie Bush DET vs. Dal
Note: (Knee) Did not practice Friday, but expected to play Sunday.
11.Stevan Ridley NE vs. Mia
12.*Fred Jackson BUF at NO
Note: Aggravated a sprained MCL in the win over the Dolphins, yet plugged on after a brief absence in the game. Sat out Wednesday, but returned to practice Thursday, while Spiller was held out. ***Bumped up with Spiller out.***
13.Zac Stacy STL vs. Sea
14.Maurice Jones-Drew JAC vs. SF
15.*Darren McFadden OAK vs. Pit
Note: (Hamstring) Able to practice Monday, expected to be pretty close to full strength after the bye.
16.Darren Sproles NO vs. Buf
17.*Peyton Hillis NYG at Phi
Note: Best description of his game Monday night on Twitter? 'Looks as if he's pulling an ice truck.' Still, he was better than Cox, and was active in the passing game. ***Brandon Jacobs is doubtful, Hillis will start again.***
18.*Andre Ellington ARZ vs. Atl
Note: Ranking up with Mendenhall sitting out practice Wednesday and Thursday.
19.Giovani Bernard CIN vs. NYJ
20.*Steven Jackson ATL at Ari

Note: Had a whopping 34 carries in the win over the Pats, with just three for Powell.
22.Lamar Miller MIA at NE
23.*Joseph Randle DAL at Det
Note: Status really unstable. Could start and get lots of carries, or could be absolutely buried. ***Murray out, Dunbar active. Randle expected to start, but how much work will he actually get?
24.*Mike James TB vs. Car
Note: Expected to 'shoulder' the load with Doug Martin out.
25.*Lance Dunbar DAL at Det

26.BenJarvus Green-Ellis CIN vs. NYJ
27.*Willis McGahee CLE at KC
Note: (Knees) Sat out practice Thursday.
28.DeAngelo Williams CAR at TB
Note: Big flop in a great matchup, and now Stewart is approaching his return. The outlook appears grim.
29.Jacquizz Rodgers ATL at Ari
Note: The Falcons' run-blocking is a real problem, but at least Rodgers is so active in the passing game. ***Downgraded here with Steven Jackson probable.***
30.Roy Helu WAS at Den
Note: While the goal line carries were a bit of a fluke, it's not a fluke that he's getting good work - only on the field for 10 fewer snaps than Morris so far this year.
31.*Brandon Bolden NE vs. Mia
Note: (Knee) Limited Thursday. ***Limited again Friday.***
32.Pierre Thomas NO vs. Buf
33.Kendall Hunter SF at Jax
Note: Might get extra reps this week because of the opponent, and because Gore has a sore ankle.

Note: Whose number will come up this week?
35.*Bilal Powell NYJ at Cin
Note: (Shoulder) Just three carries last week.
36.*Marcel Reece OAK vs. Pit

Note: Bumped up with Spiller sitting out Thursday's practice.
40.Chris Ogbonnaya CLE at KC
41.*Michael Cox NYG at Phi
42.Mike Tolbert CAR at TB
Note: Much to DeAngelo Williams' chagrin, Tolbert had 13 carries and a touchdown against St. Louis.
43.Anthony Dixon SF at Jax
Note: Small bump because of the opponent and because of Gore's ankle.
44.Phillip Tanner DAL at Det
Note: Goal line vulture.
45.Felix Jones PIT at Oak
46.*James Starks GB at Min
Note: (Knee) Full practice Wednesday. ***Listed as probable.***

48.*C.J. Anderson DEN vs. Was
Note: ***Active with Ronnie Hillman getting shelved.***

51.Bryce Brown PHI vs. NYG
52.Daryl Richardson STL vs. Sea
53.Brian Leonard TB vs. Car
54.Kenjon Barner CAR at TB
55.*Montee Ball DEN vs. Was

56.Jordan Todman JAC vs. SF
57.Robert Turbin SEA at StL
58.Knile Davis KC vs. Cle
59.Leon Washington NE vs. Mia
60.Mikel Leshoure DET vs. Dal

Note: (Hamstring) Limited practice Thursday. His status is relevant with Mendenhall missing practice Thursday.
62.Justin Forsett JAC vs. SF
63.Rashad Jennings OAK vs. Pit
64.*C.J. Spiller BUF at NO
Note: According to coach Doug Marrone, Spiller's ankle injury has 'everything to do' with his poor production. Ok, that's great - we've got a reason. Now when we can we expect him fully healthy? He's quickly approaching Roddy White territory - hurting his value by playing through it. Did not practice Thursday - appears to be difference of opinion between Spiller and the coaching staff about his health. Possible that the Bills could rest him this week. ***Listed as doubtful.***
65.*DeMarco Murray DAL at Det
Note: (Knee) Limited in practice Wednesday and Thursday. Though some reports point towards him playing, he's an uncertain option for this week. The team later reiterated Thursday that Murray is in line to play. *** Ruled out after testing his knee in warmups. ***
66.*Jason Snelling ATL at Ari
Note: (Ankle) Did not practice Wednesday or Thursday. Value slipping anyhow with Steven Jackson getting close to returning. ***Out this week.***
67.*Ronnie Hillman DEN vs. Was
Note: Hillman's lost fumble, the latest in a series of fumbles, could hurt his playing time. ***Inactive this week, in favor of C.J. Anderson.***
68.*Brandon Jacobs NYG at Phi
Note: (Hamstring) 'Hoping and praying' that he can return this week after sitting out the Monday night game. Did not practice Thursday. ***Listed as doubtful, but did travel with the team.***
69.*Rashard Mendenhall ARZ vs. Atl

79.*Percy Harvin SEA at StL
Note: (Hip) Returned to practice Monday, though he hasn't yet officially been activated from the PUP list. Status for Monday night still uncertain.
