Tournament Preview

The European Tour is in Beijing this week for the China Open. This is the third year in a row that the tournament is at Topwin Golf & Country Club. It is a parkland course on the hills of Huairou, at the base of the Great Wall of China. The picturesque course is very undulating with water on all but three holes. The last two years have seen the winning score about 20-under par; there are many birdies to be had. This week's focus will be golfers in form, who are good ball strikers and long off the tee.

DRAFTKINGS PICKS (with odds)

Joost Luiten - $10,500 (18/1)

Luiten is my favorite play at the top tier. He's had an amazing season with a win at Oman Open. His last two outings have been back-to-back T9s, including last week at Trophee Hassan II. Joost is ranked 13th in SG: tee to green and 25th in greens in regulation on tour. He finished T31 last year at Volvo China Open.

Ryan Fox - $8,300 (66/1)

Fox's season has been up and down, with more up than down. He appears to be trending in the right direction, with a solo 12th last week in Morocco and did have T3 at Maybank earlier this year. Fox is long off the tee, averaging more than 316 yards. He is ranked 22nd in SG: tee to green and is 16th in greens in regulation. Ryan brings risk with him this week, he missed the cut last year and was T63 in 2016. But both of those years he was not in form during that stretch of the season.

Erik Van Rooyen - $8,200 (40/1)

Consistency has been the theme for Van Rooyen this season, missing only one cut in seven starts. The last two weeks have been especially good with a T21 in Spain and T7 last week in Morocco. His moment in the winners circle appears to be getting close. This will be his first time at China Open, but he has the skills needed to succeed at Topwin Golf & CC. Van Rooyen is ranked fourth on tour in greens in regulation, hitting more than 77 percent. He is also a bomber, averaging 314 yards off the tee and is seventh on tour in SG:Tee to green.

Adrian Otaegui - $7,700 (55/1)

Further down the price tier, Otaegui is another golfer coming in with great form. He has made every cut this season and only appears to be improving. His last four finishes have all been in the top 20. He is ranked 12th on tour in greens in regulation and 17th in SG: tee to green. Otaegui isn't at the top in driving distance, but averages more than 291 yards and is accurate off the tee. His missed cuts at this event don't concern me, as he was not in form either time.
