Just as Mohamed Salah and Harry Kane began to separate themselves at the top of the Golden Boot odds chart, Dominic Calvert-Lewin burst through the door and demanded his seat at the table by bagging a brace against Fulham, making him the only player to score multiple goals in Gameweek 9 and the first player in the league with double-digit goals this season. Calvert-Lewin's 10 goals this season lead the Premier League, and he's been incredibly consistent, scoring in all but two games and never going two consecutive games without a goal. His performance against Fulham moved him into a tie with Jamie Vardy at +600, closely behind Salah and Kane, who moved from +325 to +450 and +400 to +450, respectively. None of the other three players scored this past weekend, one in which Salah missed out because he tested positive for COVID-19 multiple times while on international duty.
Salah is expected to return as soon as this week, so it's not like his odds will crater with significant missed time, but there's no telling how his body will react to getting back to fitness, even though it's believed that he was asymptomatic. Calvert-Lewin wasn't the only mover near the top, as Son Heung-Min scored against Manchester City to give him sole possession of second place with nine goals, and his Golden Boot odds improved from +1200 to +850. This is the first time since our Nov. 2 check that five players are better than +1200 to finish as the league's highest goal scorer.
We saw some other movers further down the list, including Bruno Fernandes from +3300 to +2500 after scoring from the penalty spot against West Brom, his third goal in the past two games. And we can't forget about Diogo Jota, who found the back of the net in place of Salah and saw his odds improve from +6600 to +3300. It seemed as if Jota wouldn't get enough playing time while battling Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino for minutes, but it's almost impossible to keep him off the field now, especially when we consider the hat trick he scored against Atalanta in the Champions League (though that doesn't count for his Premier League Golden Boot pursuit). There were a few other minimal movements, though one who didn't is Sergio Aguero, who remains +5000 to win despite zero league goals this season. He is joined by Anthony Martial (+10000), Mason Greenwood (+10000), Christian Pulisic (+15000) and Rhian Brewster (+15000) as players still being offered despite no goals.
And after three weeks of no players dropping off the list, DraftKings is no longer accepting bets on West Ham's Jarrod Bowen to win the Golden Boot after back-to-back weeks of being +20000. With three goals this season, it seems a bit odd that he was thrown off while guys like Brewster, Gareth Bale (+15000 for one goal) and Aleksandar Mitrovic (+15000 for two goals) remain.
