We head into the November international break with a four-way tie atop the goal chart, as Mohamed Salah scored his fourth penalty of the season Saturday against Manchester City to push him level with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jamie Vardy and Son Heung-Min for the most goals in the Premier League. Their eight goals have them one ahead of Harry Kane and Patrick Bamford, who each scored this past weekend. Kane has now scored in three straight games, but his +400 odds to win the Golden Boot didn't move from last week, only to see Salah's improve from +400 to +350. Bamford didn't move either, which was a bit surprising given that he had long-shot odds of +2500 entering the week, though that's a lot better than the +10000 he was less than a month ago.
Despite being one of the league leaders, Calvert-Lewin's odds dropped from +700 to +1000, leaving us with only Salah, Kane and Vardy in the three digits. Son is close behind at +1200, as is Chelsea's Timo Werner despite having just four goals in league play. We can look at Werner's three Champions League goals, which came away to Krasnodar and home against Rennes, to give us some optimism about his goal potential, but those don't count for the Premier League Golden Boot race. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joins Bamford at +2500, as do Raheem Sterling, Sadio Mane and Ollie Watkins, none of whom seem like realistic challengers at this point. Aubameyang and Sterling can score in bunches, of course, but two goals through nine matches is not a good start.
Sergio Aguero continues to have the highest odds (+5000) among players who haven't scored yet, with Mason Greenwood (+10000), Anthony Martial (+10000) and Rhian Brewster (+15000) joining him in the group of players still being offered who haven't found the back of the net. We didn't have anyone drop off the list after Gameweek 8, though Jarrod Bowen is now the only player at +20000. Jack Grealish, Riyad Mahrez, Christian Pulisic, Chris Wood and James Rodriguez are level with Brewster, a significant number of players at those odds after only Brewster and Bowen were there last week.
Looking back at last season, Aguero and Tammy Abraham were the goal leaders after Gameweek 8, also with eight a piece, while Aubameyang was next with seven and followed by Teemu Pukki and Sterling at six. So while we have two more players with at least six goals this season versus last, it's not a significant difference and we're basically on track to finish around where we did last season when Vardy won the Golden Boot with 23 goals.
