FanDuel MLB: Monday Playoff Value Plays

Chris Morgan looks at the single-game contest for Monday's Brewers-Dodgers tilt and recommends finding room for Max Muncy's power.
FanDuel MLB: Monday Playoff Value Plays

Since the only MLB game Monday is Dodgers-Brewers, FanDuel is running their Single Game version of daily fantasy. You choose five players from the game. One of them must be an outfielder, one of them must be an infielder, and one of your players is your "MVP," which means their points with be worth 1.5 times as much. Feeling good about all that? Good. Here are my recommendations.

MVP

Max Muncy, LAD vs. MIL ($8,000): This game is right up Muncy's alley. The lefty has been outstanding against righties, posting a 1.001 OPS in such matchups. Jhoulys Chacin is a righty, so that bodes well. On top of that, Muncy has a 1.002 OPS at home, so the fact the series has moved to Dodgers Stadium is another reason why Muncy is my MVP choice.

INFIELD

Travis Shaw, MIL at LAD ($7,500): After hitting 31 homers last season, Shaw bested himself with 32 this year. A whopping 30 of those came against righties, and he slashed .251/.357/.535 in those matchups. Though Walker Buehler had a strong season, Shaw is usually a solid choice against right-handed pitchers.

OUTFIELD

Joc Pederson, LAD vs. MIL ($6,500): Like Muncy, Pederson is quite potent against righties. He had a .260/.338/.556 slash line versus right-handed hurlers, so he'll be glad the Brewers aren't starting a lefty for the first time in this series. In addition to being right handed, Chacin had a 4.07 FIP.

UTLITY

Enrique Hernandez, LAD vs. MIL ($6,500): Hernandez ended the regular season hot, posting a .959 OPS in September, and he's stayed strong in the playoffs. He also performed better at home this year, managing a .916 OPS at his own ballpark. As previously noted, Chacin had a 4.07 FIP this season, which is in line with his career FIP of 4.09.

Yasmani Grandal, LAD vs. MIL ($6,000): With a pitching matchup of Buehler versus Chacin, I'm more tempted by Dodgers than Brewers on Monday, needless to say. Grandal will be back starting behind the plate for Game 3, bringing his unusual power for a catcher. He's had at least 22 homers in each of his last three seasons, and he's another Dodger both better against righties and at home.
