Closer Watch
Pittsburgh Pirates - Pirates closer Mark Melancon was unavailable Sunday after pitching in three straight games, so left-hander Tony Watson got the call to protect a 1-0 lead against the Brewers after starter Vance Worley pitched eight shut-out innings. Watson gave up two hits to start the inning and also hit a batter, but he didn't allow a run to nail down his first save of the season. Melancon should be back in the closer's role for the Pirates should a save opportunity arise on Monday.

Derek Holland, P, TEX - Holland didn't make his 2014 debut until Sep. 2 after his recovery from offseason knee surgery took a bit longer than expected, but he's been brilliant through four starts for the Rangers thus far. The 27-year-old left-hander is 1-0 with a 0.99 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and a 22:3 K:BB over 27.1 innings. Holland is scheduled for two home starts during the final week of the regular season, drawing the Astros on Monday and the A's on Saturday. The match up against Oakland may look intimidating, as the team tries to secure a Wild Card spot in the playoffs, but the A's have the fourth-worst batting average (.236) against left-handers this season, making Holland an excellent two-start pitcher for the week ahead.
