Yahoo DFS Basketball: Tuesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Basketball: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Basketball series.

The NBA will bring a packed schedule to the table Tuesday with 20 teams playing. The Nets will try to snap their eight-game losing streak when they play the Celtics, but since the game is in Brooklyn, they'll have to do so without Kyrie Irving. After playing the Bulls on Monday, the Suns have a quick turnaround facing the Sixers in Philadelphia. The Lakers also will be in action when they play host to Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks. Let's get down to business and highlight some players to consider for your Yahoo lineups, as well as a few to potentially avoid.

GUARD

Brandon Ingram, NO vs. HOU ($37): The Rockets probably won't be happy to see Ingram again. The first time he played against them this season, he recorded 40 points, five rebounds and four assists. In their second meeting Sunday, he posted 33 points, three rebounds, 12 assists and three steals. Given that the Rockets have played at the fastest pace in the league, Ingram should receive plenty of opportunities to stuff the stat sheet again.

Reggie Bullock, DAL vs. DET ($14): When Tim Hardaway Jr. (foot) was lost for the season, Bullock stepped into an expanded role. He hasn't let the Mavericks down, averaging 18.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 4.7 three-pointers in his last six games. With his added playing time, he could remain hot against a Pistons team that has the fifth-worst defensive rating in the league.

Guard to Avoid

Russell Westbrook, LAL vs. MIL ($34): Westbrook had a rough game against the Knicks on Saturday, scoring 20.8 Yahoo points across 29 minutes. He didn't play at all in overtime, and the Lakers looked better with him off the floor. With LeBron James back from injury, Westbrook could have a difficult time providing value at this salary, especially since an excellent defender in Jrue Holiday probably will guard him most of the game.

FORWARD

Jayson Tatum, BOS at BKN ($40): Not much of an argument needs to be made for deploying Tatum in DFS. Although he hasn't been as efficient this season, he's still produced excellent averages of 25.6 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. The Nets defense has floundered lately, which has their defensive rating approaching the bottom 10 in the league for the season. That means that Tatum should have a high floor.

Norman Powell, LAC at MEM ($26): The Clippers badly needed help on the offensive end and they got it when they acquired Powell from the Trail Blazers. He wasn't shy about shooting in his debut Sunday, scoring 28 points on 16 shots against the Bucks. He was eased into action in his first game with the team, playing 24 minutes off the bench. With more minutes likely coming his way in this game, he could have another scoring outburst.

Forward to Avoid

Robert Covington, LAC at MEM ($20): Covington also came off the bench in his debut with the Clippers, posting 13 points and four rebounds in 23 minutes. Unlike Powell, though, he doesn't have a clear path to significant playing time. He'll have to battle with the likes of Marcus Morris, Nicolas Batum, Ivica Zubac and Serge Ibaka for playing time at power forward and center, which doesn't make him an appealing option.

CENTER

Karl-Anthony Towns, MIL at SAC ($41): This is a great matchup for Towns given the Kings play at the eighth-fastest pace and have the second-worst defensive rating in the league. They are not a good rebounding team, either, allowing the ninth-most rebounds per game. While his average of 9.6 rebounds per game is disappointing by his standards, Towns has been more productive on the glass lately, averaging 12.1 rebounds in his last seven games.

Jaxson Hayes, NO vs. HOU ($17): Hayes hasn't played much this season, averaging just 16 minutes per game. However, he's averaged 30 minutes in the last four games, which helped him score at least 35.4 Yahoo points three times. He's likely earned more playing time for the immediate future, so he could provide significant value in this favorable matchup. When these two teams played Sunday, he scored 41.4 Yahoo points.

Center to Avoid

Clint Capela, ATL vs. IND ($21): Since returning from injury, Capela has averaged only 23 minutes in nine games. His reduced playing time left him with averages of 7.8 points, 8.4 rebounds and 0.9 blocks during that stretch. There's no reason to believe that Onyeka Okongwu won't continue to eat into his playing time, which makes him risky at this salary.
