Yahoo DFS Basketball: Wednesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Basketball: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Basketball series.

After there were nine games in the NBA on Tuesday, the league follows that up with 10 games Wednesday. That means we'll be looking at several teams playing the second leg of a back-to-back set, so be prepared for rest days.

After an incredible comeback win over the Wizards on Tuesday, the Clippers will try to earn another win when they play the Magic in Orlando. The Kings will try to bounce back after getting blown out by the Celtics when they face the Hawks, which should be a dubious task in Atlanta.

Let's get down to business and highlight some players to consider for your Yahoo lineups, as well as a few to potentially avoid.

GUARDS

Ja Morant, MEM at SA ($44): Morant comes into this game hot, averaging 35.3 points, 9.0 rebounds and 8.7 assists across the last three games. That's coincided with an outbreak of COVID-19 on the team that has sidelined Desmond Bane, Tyus Jones and Kyle Anderson. Bane could return for this game, but Jones and Anderson might be out again. Regardless, this is still a great matchup for Morant against a Spurs team that has played at the fifth-fastest pace in the league.

Gary Trent Jr., TOR at CHI ($18): Fred VanVleet (knee) and Scott Barnes (wrist) did not play Tuesday against the Hornets, which propelled Trent to score 32 points across 35 minutes. Being that it was the first game of a back-to-back set, it might have been more of a rest situation for those two than anything else, so they could be back for this game. Even if they are, though, Trent could provide value at his cheap salary. The Bulls have been a mess on the defensive end lately and that's not likely to improve anytime soon with Lonzo Ball (knee) and Alex Caruso (wrist) out.

Guard to Avoid

Mike Conley Jr., UTA vs. PHO ($23): Conley is expected to play in this game after sitting out Monday for rest. He's had an underwhelming season, averaging just 14.0 points per game. A matchup against a Suns team that has the second-best defensive rating in the league isn't likely to help his scoring production.

FORWARDS

Amir Coffey, LAC at ORL ($15): There are a couple of interesting value plays at forward, with Coffey being one of them. He scored 29 points in the Clippers' comeback win Tuesday, marking the fifth time over the last nine games that he has scored at least 16 points. Given that the Magic have the seventh-worst defensive rating, Coffey could continue his recent scoring outburst.

Jeff Green, DEN at BKN ($13): Green has been a key contributor for the Nuggets, averaging 15.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists over his last nine games. He scored 20 points against the Pistons on Tuesday, taking advantage of a favorable matchup against a team with a bad defense. Given the Nets' difficulties in that area, Green is worth considering at this cheap salary.

Forward to Avoid

Keldon Johnson, SA vs. MEM ($18): Johnson has shown improvement in the scoring department this season, specifically his average of 1.7 three-pointer per game. The problem for DFS purposes is that he provides virtually nothing in the way of assists and defensive stats. That's one of the main reasons why he hasn't surpassed 28.1 Yahoo points in any of his last 13 games.

CENTERS

Nikola Jokic, DEN at BKN ($57): Jokic dominated the Pistons on Tuesday, posting 28 points, 21 rebounds and nine assists. As good as his season stats are, he's been even better lately, averaging 27.4 points, 13.8 rebounds and 9.5 assists over his last 11 games. Given the Nets' defensive deficiencies, Jokic might be someone to consider building your entire entry around.

Bismack Biyombo, CHA at UTA ($18): Not only will Deandre Ayton (ankle) remain sidelined Wednesday, but JaVale McGee has also been ruled out. That should leave plenty of minutes for Biyombo, who has scored at least 36.1 Yahoo points in three of the last four games. It should also help his cause that Rudy Gobert (calf) will be out for the Jazz.

Center to Avoid

Onyeka Okongwu, ATL vs. SAC ($19): Okongwu had a productive stretch while filling in for Clint Capela, who missed six consecutive games at one point. However, with Capela back the last two games, Okongwu has scored 12.3 and 19.9 Yahoo points, respectively. Biyombo has a much higher upside and his salary is a dollar cheaper, so there's no need to even consider Okongwu for this slate.
