College Football DFS: Week 7 Friday Slate

Friday night's CFB slates on FanDuel and DraftKings feature two interesting games.  Let's dive in!

SLATE OVERVIEW

BYU @ Houston (+5) O/U: 63

Tulane @ SMU (-6.5) O/U: 65

This two-game offering is more exciting than the non-weekend slates we've had in past weeks. Both games have O/U lines above 60, and the spreads are narrow as well. The combination of these two factors usually equals a lot of fantasy production. If there's any team I'm light on, it's Tulane, but all four teams will play a role in our lineup builds.

QUARTERBACK

Zach Wilson, BYU (DK $8,000, FD $10,000) @ Houston

Wilson is a no-brainer add for this slate.  Not only has he completed over 70 percent of his passes and has also led the Cougars to a 4-0 record.  Although their homecoming game against UTSA was a lot closer than it should have been, he still went 22 of 30 for 282 yards and two touchdowns. He also avoids mistakes, throwing only one pick through four games (101 attempts).

Shane Buechele, SMU (DK $7,200, FD $10,200) vs. Tulane

Going with the two favorites at quarterback makes more sense than dipping into Clayton Tune, and the QB situation at Tulane is shaky at best.  Wilson and Buechele will also find their way into most of my lineups as QB/S-Flex options. Buechele is posting video-game numbers with the Mustangs, and he's hurled 10 touchdowns with only two interceptions. While he isn't known for his running game, he's

Tulane's allowed an average of 278 yards to opposing quarterbacks.

RUNNING BACK

Ulysses Bentley IV, SMU (DK $6,400, FD $9,700) vs. Tulane

It's great to have our top rusher at such a reasonable price on DraftKings, and Bentley's salary is one reason we'll be able to afford a two-QB roster in most of our builds. His floor is a bit volatile but with a 227-yard game against North Texas, you know he possesses the ability to pop for a big line. Bentley keeps defenses honest, allowing Buechele to air it out to his talented receiving corps.

Mulbah Car, Houston (DK $5,200, FD $8,500) vs. BYU

It's risky to play any rusher against BYU's stingy defense, but I have good reason to slide Car in due to his injury designation, which will make him a less popular product. Since I'm throwing up multiple lineups, I'll have some exposure to Lopini Katoa ($5,600) and Tyler Allgeier ($6,200) on the other side of this game, but I'm going to pay top dollar for wideouts on this slate and every dollar counts.

Cameron Carroll, Tulane (DK $5,200, FD $7,900) vs. SMU

Carroll's a terrific value for Friday. His numbers have been all over the place and he didn't do much against Houston in his last game, but he'll get the most touches out of the backfield. The Green Wave will need to mix it up, and they may struggle against the Mustang's secondary, so Carroll is set up well for this contest.

WIDE RECEIVER

Dax Milne ($5,700) and Gunner Romney ($7,000), BYU @ Houston

I gave this BYU double-stack about 30% exposure in my builds. Both wideouts have beaten projections in three out of four contests, and they did so by a wide margin in each game.  Milne is more of a possession receiver who will thrive in the PPR scoring system and Romney is a deep threat. They are about even in touchdowns. You should have more than enough salary to put both of them in if you take a budget path at running back.

Danny Gray, SMU (DK $6,000, FD $8,700) @ Tulane

Although I suspect SMU's passing atttack won't be needed as much in the second half of this game, Gray's shown a considerable nose for the end zone despite seeing fewer targets than his counterparts Rashee Rice (DK $5,300, FD $7,700) and Kylen Granson (DK $4,800, FD $6,500). I prefer Granson as a scond option, but Gray should play a key role and is worth the extra cash.

OTHER FLEX TARGETS

Marquez Stevenson, Houston (DK $7,700, FD $9,400) vs. BYU

Stevenson exploded for 118 yards receiving in the Cougars' first contest against Tulane, but I balked at making him a primary recommendation due to BYU's stingy defense.  Still, he has an impressive 2019 resume where he fell short of projections only twice, with highlights being a huge 211 yard, two-touchdown affair against SMU.  Despite the pedigree I think the BYu receivers will be a more popular play, and we could see a slightly lower roster percentage for Stevenson.

Jha'Quan Jackson, Tulane (DK $4,400, FD $6,700) vs. SMU

Jackson is my deep dive bargain pick of the night. He's scored a touchdown in each of his last two games but only has six receptions on the year, which is concerning.  At only 5-9, he relies on his quickness to get open and isn't a possession receiver, but he can outrun defenders when running a post pattern and has the tools for a slate-busting play. 

To conclude, I think your smartest option is to play your top QB's at QB and S-Flex and filling out from there. You'll still have ample salary to round out the rest of your roster.
