The 12-team College Football Playoff is quickly becoming a college football betting staple for futures wagering, in its second season under this format.
The excitement ramps up this week because the first CFP rankings will be announced on Tuesday night (8 p.m., ESPN). After months of speculation and polls that don't count, we'll get our first glimpse at what the College Football Playoff committee is thinking when the top 25 is released.
Here is the updated projection of the CFP field for the 2025 season after Week 10, from RotoWire.com.

Of note for customers at sports betting sites contemplating wagers on college football: The seeding format has changed from last year's inaugural run at a 12-team field.
For the 2025 College Football Playoff, the teams will be seeded in order of their final CFP ranking, with no first-round byes guaranteed for conference champions. The five highest-ranked conference champions – including one from the Group of Five leagues – will be guaranteed a spot in the 12-team field. Last year, the top four seeds (and first-round byes) were awarded to the four highest-ranked conference champions, which led to ninth-ranked Boise State receiving the No. 3 seed and Big 12 champion Arizona State, which was 12th in the final CFP rankings, getting the No. 4 seed.

Top CFP Contenders
Another week down, another pair of ACC contenders damaged their playoff chances.
Georgia Tech fell from the ranks of the unbeaten on Saturday, but the Yellow Jackets still have time to recover.
Coach Brent Key's team lost 48-36 at North Carolina State to fall to 8-1 overall and drop out of a tie for first place in the league. But, assuming the Rambling Wreck takes care of business against Boston College and Pitt in the next couple of weeks, they have an excellent opportunity to boost their resume on Nov. 28 against archrival Georgia.
For the
Miami Hurricanes, this looks like another great season gone awry when it counts the most for the team, its fans and CFB futures backers.
A mistake-filled 26-20 overtime defeat at SMU knocked UM down to 6-2 overall but, more important, 2-2 in the ACC and needing a ton of help just to reach the league title game on Dec. 6 in Charlotte. Head coach Mario Cristobal is now 4-11 in November or later during his four-year tenure at UM.
Virginia (pictured above) is the lone unbeaten left in the ACC at 5-0 (its early loss against NC State was, oddly, not counted as a conference game). But at Caesars Sportsbook, the Cavs are fourth on the board to win the league at +350 odds, as of Nov. 3. That trails Georgia Tech (+240), Louisville (+300) and Duke (+300).
With a month left in the regular season, expect this race for a CFP spot to get even wilder. Clemson and Florida State have been the powers to beat in the ACC over the years, but both are way down in 2025. Now it looks like Miami has all but been eliminated too.
Memphis is our new Group of 5 pick after Tulane's loss last week at UTSA, but the crazy American Conference race (six teams have exactly one conference loss) has a long way to go. It's very unlikely that any other team will snatch the CFP's Group of 5 bid away from that league.

Oklahoma, SEC | +475 | 7-2 (3-2) |

The SEC is the gift that keeps on giving as far as teams knocking each other out of CFP consideration, with results scrambling the list of contenders on a weekly basis in America's best college football league.
Over the weekend, Texas upset visiting Vanderbilt 34-31 (it still feels weird to call that an upset, but last week's Associated Press rankings suggested that it was) as the Longhorns vaulted back into contention in the CFP race. Vandy only has two losses and is still No. 15 in the AP poll but, by SEC standards, the Commodores have a weak remaining schedule (Auburn, Kentucky, at Tennessee) so they have little chance of getting into the CFP field without a ton of teams in front of them losing.
The
Oklahoma Sooners, on the other hand, cannot be counted out.
OU's only losses are to Texas and Ole Miss. Saturday's win at Tennessee pretty much knocked out the Vols and kept Oklahoma alive. Is it possible that the SEC gets five members in the 12-team CFP field? It depends somewhat on results elsewhere (a Notre Dame loss would help, for instance) but we can't rule it out.
