Yahoo DFS Soccer: Wednesday UCL Picks

MATCHES (EST)

FORWARDS

Lautaro Martinez (€28) and/or Romelu Lukaku, INT vs. SHK (€24): With Robert Lewandowski (€30) projected to rest, Lukaku and Martinez are one-two at the top of the goal scoring odds chart. Lukaku has three goals in his last two games, including a brace in his last UCL appearance. Martinez has taken 11 shots over his last two starts, and with Inter Milan in need of a result in order to advance, we can expect both forwards to be firing on all cylinders.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, FCB vs. LOKO (€10): Choupo-Moting is in line to start with Lewandowski carrying a slight knock and Bayern Munich already having punched a ticket to the knockout round. Choupo-Moting hasn't had many opportunities since joining Bayern this season, so even in a mostly meaningless game we can expect him to make the most of his rare opportunity to get off the mark at a bargain price. It doesn't hurt to have some exposure to the biggest favorite with the highest total game on the slate.

MIDFIELDERS

Toni Kroos,  RMA vs. BMG (€24): Kroos is averaging over seven fantasy points per game throughout the UCL group stage, and that's with just one assist and no goals. He completes enough passes to be rewarded with a healthy share of points, and as the primary set piece taker he should be plenty busy with Real Madrid pushing for a win.

Lars Stindl, BMG at RMA (€23): Opposite of Kroos is Stindl, who plays a vital role in the  Monchengladbach attack and has seen an uptick in set-piece responsibility with Jonas Hofmann expected to miss the remainder of the season. Stindl's two goals and two assists in four UCL starts are a big reason why Gladbach are at the top of Group B heading into the final matchday, and even in a tough matchup with Real Madrid on deck, he should be amped up for this one with a spot in the next round on the line.

Dominik Szoboszlai,  RBS vs. ATM (€19): The writing is on the wall: a win at home sends Red Bull Salzburg through to the next round. While it won't be easy against stiff competition in Atletico Madrid, we saw Leipzig pull off a similar upset at home over Manchester United on Tuesday. With Szoboszlai deputizing on the majority of set pieces, he'll be relied upon for service going forward he could be busy, especially if Salzburg go down and are playing catch up.

DEFENDERS

Achraf Hakimi,  INT vs. SHK (€16): Hakimi erupted for a brace and topped 23 points in Saturday's Serie A win over Bologna. He's closer to a right midfielder than a defender, giving his fantasy appeal a sizable bump when his attacking upside is factored in.

Eric Garcia,  MCI vs. OLM (€14): If he starts, Garcia gives us a value play out of the Manchester City back line, which boasts the best clean sheet odds of any team on the slate. He doesn't have much attacking appeal, though he did turn up with two shots (one on goal) and 12 points in his last UCL outing. Look for him to hold it down as Man City work to close out the group stage on a high note.

Chris Richards, FCB vs. LOKO (€10): Plenty of value is to be expected when starting lineups are announced, and Richards fits that bill as a minimum-priced defender on the biggest favorite on the board. Similar to Choupo-Moting, opportunities have been few and far between, but he does have an assist in one of his two Bundesliga starts this season. Look for the former FC Dallas Academy player to jump at the opportunity to see notable minutes.

GOALKEEPER

Zack Steffen, MCI vs. OLM (€11): With a spot in the knockout stage already secured, Steffen is set to make his UCL debut for Manchester City. Even with little to play for, expect the American to be up to the task at home against a team they already dispatched 3-0 the first go-around. He'll be motivated to turn in a strong showing in his Champions League debut and it certainly doesn't hurt to get the goalkeeper with the best clean sheet odds at a near minimum price.
