Denver Broncos RB Roles
Team: Denver Broncos
Last Update:   4/4/2024
RB Overview
Role Security: High
03/20/24 Javonte Williams has never seen a featured-back role in the NFL. Williams will be the lead back, though he'll like lose change-of-pace carries and pass targets to his backups. Second-year player Jaleel McLaughlin is the favorite to assume No. 2 duties. However, McLaughlin is unlikely to see a big number of rushing attempts. McLaughlin could emerge as the third-down RB. Samaje Perine is unlikely to see a lot of work. Perine could take some goal-line carries, which would come at the expense of Williams.
WR Overview
03/20/24 Courtland Sutton will remain the alpha receiver on the Broncos. However, if Denver remains a run-heavy team, Sutton may continue to see sub-optimal target volume. Going into the 2022 season, Tim Patrick was preparing to be a factor in the receiving game. In each of the last two preseasons, Patrick suffered season-ending injuries. Now 30 years old and coming back from major injuries, it's fair to question if Patrick will be able to hold down the No. 2 role. No. 3 WR Marvin Mims saw minimal targets as a rookie. It's unclear as to whether the team sees him as a deep threat or a well-rounded receiver. Josh Reynolds and Brandon Johnson will push for a top-three role if either Patrick and/or Mims are unable to seize roles.
TE Overview
03/20/24 Greg Dulcich missed most of the 2023 season with injuries. Dulcich should be the primary receiving TE. If Dulcich struggles during training camp, it's possible that Adam Trautman can cut into the receiving TE role.
